These instructions are for the original Windows 95. Windows 95b (OSR 2), Windows 98, and other versions may work differently.
  1. Make sure your monitor is Energy Star compliant. Check for the Energy Star logo on the monitor:
  2. In Windows 95, right-click on the desktop. From the pop-up menu that appears, choose "Properties":
  3. In the "Display Properties" dialog box, click on the "Settings" tab, then click on the "Change Display Type..." button:
  4. In the "Change Display Type" dialog box, make sure "Monitor is Energy Star compliant" is checked, then click on the "Close" button:
  5. Back in the "Display Properties" dialog box, click on the "Screen Saver" tab. In the "Energy saving features of monitor" box, make sure "Shut off monitor" is checked. Enter the power-down delay (in minutes) in the box at the right:
